We recently conducted an interview with our award-winning CEO, Jim Rae, so we could get to know him better…

Jim, tell us a bit about yourself.

So, I’ve worked in document and information management for about 30 years. My trained background is in sales and marketing. However, from managing my own businesses since 2005, I’ve gained a wider knowledge of the internal and external processes within a company.

I have an entrepreneurial and solutions-focused mindset. I want to help companies become more efficient in communicating with their internal and external clients. I’m never satisfied and am always on the lookout for new solutions that I can bring to the market. These ultimately deliver further value to the people I work with. This is what gets me up in the morning and keeps me striving to be better.

How would you describe the work that docs24 does?

We build technology platforms for our clients to help them manage their key documents and company assets. We’re passionate about returning lost hours to our clients and helping companies streamline their document management processes, maintain their brand better and make sure everything is working in the most effective way.

What, in your opinion, is the most important thing a company needs to succeed?

I believe creating a positive company culture is key to success.

We rebranded about 3 years ago. At the time I sat down with my colleagues and we created a company culture guide that would encapsulate everything that was true to us. It was key that we worked on it together, rather than just creating it in my own voice. It would take everyone being on board to make sure the culture was put into practice. Today any new staff member who joins our team is given a copy of the culture book to help them understand how we work.

I think this book has been, probably, the most important element of our company. It’s become synonymous with everything we do. We work with our vendors, our investors and our clients based on the culture book.

What impact has the culture you’ve helped create had on where your business is today?

Our growth. We’ve grown significantly in the last 3 years, both on turnover and in team members.

Our clients are the most important people in our business. Having a company culture that promotes the right values and behaviours is unbelievably important. It’s one of the reasons why we’ve grown so much and why our clients continue to choose us.

You’ve talked about your team members, tell us more about them.

We work as a team, rather than as staff. Everything we do is a team effort. We lose together and we win together (more often we win together!) I am very proud of what we’ve created at docs24. We have a fantastic team who are dedicated to making sure our clients are well looked after.

And finally, tell us something people might be surprised to learn about you.

Something that might be a little unusual about my background is that I used to be a professional football player. I’m also currently the Captain of the Scotland National (over 38) team. My years playing football are probably where my appreciation for work culture and teamwork comes from.
